Mammals (and Sharks)

Out in the Minch there are – depending on the time of year - dolphins (mainly common), minke whales and the occasional basking shark, and these are all best seen from the boats operating from Gairloch Pier or from headlands. Within Gairloch you are more likely to see seals and porpoises, and otters if you are lucky. On land there are red and roe deer on the hill above the cottage, and more elusive pine martens, red squirrels and badgers may be seen within Gairloch parish.
