THE LAYOUT
Aird Cottage was originally two one-up, one-down cottages. On the ground floor of the original building are the sitting room and a bedroom with a double bed. It was extended in the 1950s, with a bathroom, separate loo, kitchen, dining room and a further twin-bedded bedroom added, all the ground floor. The dining room has a large picture window, with views over the garden and to the hills beyond. The first floor has two attic bedrooms with twin beds. It is accessed by a steep wooden stair, common to many old highland cottages.
GENERAL FACILITIES
The cottage is equipped with crockery, cutlery, glass and cooking utensils. There is an electric cooker, fridge/freezer, and microwave; dish-washer, television, video and radio; iron and a vacuum cleaner. The telephone accepts incoming calls but is restricted to local and 999 outgoing calls. A washing machine and tumble drier are located in a stone shed next to the cottage.
HOT WATER
Hot water is provided by an immersion heater, which operates on the night (economy) rate. There is also a booster switch, which can be operated at any time.
HEATING
Sitting room - an electric heater and an open fire, which burns coal, logs or peat briquettes Dining room - an electric convection heater Downstairs bedrooms and attic landing - electric storage heaters
BEDDING AND LINEN
There are duvets and pillows on all the beds. Blankets and quilts are also available. LINEN IS NOT PROVIDED. Visitors must bring their own duvet covers, sheets, pillow cases, towels and tea cloths.
THE GARDEN
The garden, which extends over an acre, is totally secluded and is particularly popular with children. There are trees, shrubs and plant beds together with grassed areas which are kept mown, but part of the garden is steep and rough with bracken and wild raspberries. There are steps down to the shore gate, which gives access to Badachro bay. The shore gate should always be kept shut, as should the upper gate, as local sheep are always ready to get in.
